As far as hours-in-the-shop goes, this one probably breaks the record. Formerly a black Japanese Std 62 Strat, we knew from the first moment that it was a sly gem. The neck was just unbelievably slick. The body, took some time to get right. First it went back to natural, then it got a three-tone sunburst, then, finally, it was finished in Vintage White. Then given a medium-heavy relic finish to reveal some of the sunburst. Now it almost makes you cry it’s so good. The previous owner for some reason had replaced the original Japanese pickups with a Wilkinson set. Nothing (too much) against Wilkinson, but needless to say, they didn’t come anywhere close to ‘right’ in our ears. So we opted for a new set of Fender Hot Noiseless pickups (same as Jeff Beck’s) with 3 new CTS pots, Switch, capacitor & scratchplate. We also fitted a DPDT On/Off switch for switching on the Neck Pickup (Gilmour Mod) to give 2 new options of Neck/Bridge and Neck/Middle/Bridge together…..cool!
